Child and Adolescent Mental Health Care Project

This project was created to respond to the MH needs of children & adolescents in Armenia by reacting as early as possible to a cry for help, by engaging parents and teachers in the early recognition of MH problems, and by taking care and bringing therapy to those who need it most, in a multi-disciplinary and supportive therapy environment.

Our service is based on a day-treatment program. The basic professional principles of the service are based on the methods of Individual Psychotherapy, Therapy and counseling with parents, Family Therapy, Group Therapy, Behavioral Therapy and Pharmacotherapy. The general concept of the methods mentioned above originates from existential-humanistic and client-centered physiotherapeutic approaches.

The objectives of the project are to improve children’s and adolescents’ life quality suffering from MH problems in Armenia and to provide comprehensive MH care for a period of functioning of the services.

We aim to provide a continuous professional MH care for children and adolescents, who have already developed different MH symptoms.

One of the main principles of our work is the involvement of whole family in the treatment process. Home visits are also one of the important parts of our practical work. The criteria used in the process of diagnosing are the ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) of the World Health Organization (WHO).

A treatment plan for any patient is designed by a key person (psychiatrist or psychologist), and discussed in clinical meetings with other professionals, involved in the work of the Center. Scientific and clinical monitoring is also provided by Consultant of the program.

The main impact of this project is the improvement of MH of the target group. The project will also help the target group to get free from stigma. The family environment of the clients will also be improved. The project will help to create harmonic relations in the family and outside of it.
