Project Objective:
Development of ability of primary health care specialists to recognize and provide appropriate professional support to children and adolescents with MH problems.
To raise awareness of the population and professionals in the MH matters.
Project Goals:
A.1. Development of appropriate skills for assessment and recognition of children's mental health problems among the specialists working in general Health Care system;
A.2. To set up a network of patients' referrals between the primary care system and qualified psychological and psychiatric institutions;
B.1. Public education through the publication of handbooks, brochures,
B.2. Radio and TV programs to achieve greater awareness and understanding of mental illness in order to overcome fear and prejudice.
B.3. To achieve grater awareness and understanding of psychiatry and its successes among the parents of both healthy and mentally ill children, and general population;
B.4. To publish and distribute a English-Russian-Armenian Dictionary of Basic Psychological Terms.
B.5. To publish and distribute Modern Psychiatric Glossary.
B.6. To prepare the electronic version of the publications (floppy) mentioned in B.4, B.5
Planed Activities of the project:
A.1. Organization of seminars and workshops;
A.2. Supervision and consultations for professionals and clients (CAMHCP, sponsored by CAFOD);
A.3. Distribution of questionnaires and other professional materials to facilitate the recognition of mental health problems in children and adolescents;
A.4. Establishment of system of referrals between the primary health care system and qualified psychological and psychiatric institutions; The main MH care institution to which the referral cases would be applied is Armenian Child & Adolescent Mental Health Care Project.
B.1. Publication of handbooks, brochures, and the electronic dictionary on the floppies;
B.2. Conduct of radio (weekly);
B.3. TV (bi-monthly) programs.
Expected Results:
A.1. Ability of the specialists working on the level of primary health care to recognize children and adolescents with MH problems;
A.2. Ability of the specialists working on the level of primary health care to provide help to children and adolescents with certain, i.e. mild forms of MH problems, and their families with certain psychological support;
A.3. Established of a working system of referrals of children and adolescent with MH problems from the primary health care institutions, i.e. policlinics, to the qualified professional psychological and psychiatric institutions and services;
Improvement of MH state and prevention of mental disorders among young population of Armenia.
B.1./ B.2. Increase the knowledge of the general population (with particular emphasis on parents) in the matters of MH problems among children and adolescents; reduce stigma of psychiatric illness.
