Fulbright Senior Specialist
Association of Child Psychiatrists and Psychologists (ACPP) in collaboration
with the Department of Psychiatry of Yerevan State Medical Institute has
invited Dr. Arthur Pogosyan, a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist from the US.
Arthur H. Pogosyan, M.D. is visiting us as a Fulbright Senior Specialist.
Dr. Pogosyan is Board Certified in Adult and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
He is the Chief Psychiatrist at Child and Family
Guidance Center. He is also an Adjunct Clinical Faculty at
UCLA/VA Sepulveda Psychiatric Residency Education Program. He resides in
Los Angeles, California and is an Active Member of ACPP.
Our planned program includes Educational activities for Psychiatrists, Psychologists
and other interested professionals.
Presentations are on topics of Child Development and Childhood Disorders.
Lectures on Child Development:
a) Psychosexual Development (Z. Freud)
b) Psychosocial Development (E. Erikson)
c) Cognitive Development (J. Piaget)
d) Attachment Theory (J. Bowlby)
e) Stages of Development
Objective of the lecture series is to introduce theories and their practical
applications in daily work of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and
teachers.
Special Presentations:
1. Evaluating the Child and the Family and preparing treatment plan.
2. ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment.
3. Childhood Mood Disorders.
4. Childhood Psychosis.
5. OCD and Anxiety Disorders.
6. Autism and PDD Spectrum Disorders.
Objective of special presentations is to review general principals of diagnosing
and treating common childhood disorders. Latest data from American Publications
will be provided.
Anti-Tobaco Campaign

The project is funded by the State Budget of Republic of Armenia via the Center
for Public Dialogue and Development.
Results of NGO grant competition for anti-tobacco campaign have been summed up.
10 organizations have won. Total number of applications was 22.For more info

A visit to MH services of Nagorno Karabagh
In August 2006 ACPP organized a visit to MH services of Nagorno Karabagh.
While in Karabagh Dr. K. Gasparyan met minister of Health of Nagorno Karabagh
Dr. Zoya Lazaryan, Chairman of National Assembly of NK Mr. Ashot Ghulyan,
Meier of city of Stepanakert Mr. Eduard Aghabekyan, staff members of the
republican Psychiatric Hospital and the Centre for Psychological Rehabilitation.
With the local professionals they visited a Center for orphaned and disabled
children "Zangak".
Psychological Rehabilitation Center current needs are:
toys and play therapy equipments;
cosmetic renovation;
running costs for outreach work with the communities outside of Stepanakert.
"Mankan Tun" orphanage program
ACPP is running a socialization program for "Mankan Tun" orphanage for the children.

Psychological help to the families of victims
After the Airbus A 320 crashed on May 3, 2006, ACPP started a psychological assistant for the relatives and family members of the victims. For professional and long term psychological intervention with traumatized families and individuals ACPP established psychological project proposal for immediate professional help. The Municipality of city of Yerevan discussed the issue and accepted to sponsor the implementation of "Psychological help to the families of victims".

Presidential Programme of the WPA

ACPP is glad to introduce Armenia in the Presidential Programme of the WPA
carried out in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the
International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions.
Mental health organizations from Argentine, Brazil, Egypt,
France, Canada, India, Israel, Nigeria, Kenya, Russia, Spain and Uganda were
involved in programme along with ACPP.
